This Pennsylvania German vorschrift, containing the rhyming religious poem of "Ein Wunder Grosses Fisch," bears the inscription "This calligraphic exercise belongs to David Geissinger, April 18, 180[?]." The familiar German legend tells of a fish with a human head caught in 1740 near Geneva, and appears on several other pieces of illuminated fraktur, including one at the Winterthur Museum and another at the Free Library of Philadelphia.
